Next Year's Production

There are a lot of things to think about for next year.
Which older pupils are leaving.
Which younger pupils will be arriving.
Who wasn't involved who wants to be.
Who was involved who doesn't.
.
Also, there is the possibility that the music department will be putting a musical on - a very exciting project, but that doesn't mean I won't be doing anything - just that my thing will be smaller.
But then, these decisions are all far off in the future - for now, we have a buzz from TOTM and I have a willingness to get started on next year.
.
So, below are some - very early - ideas that I have had for next years production. What I would like you to do is to read over them, see which ones you like, and comment on this post with your thoughts and ideas. Also, if you have your own ideas that have nothing to do with mine, then add them also - I'm always ready to steal ideas from others work with other.
.
So, without much further ado, here are my ideas;
.
1) Prester John, the King of Wishful Thinking
Cast: Large Period: Medieval Form: Epic Drama
In 1125, a Syrian Bishop heard news that the Saracens had conquerred a Christian City in the Holy Land. Desperate to convince the Pope to launch a crusade to retake the City, he invented stories about a Christian King named Prester John, who lived on the other side of the world, not far from the Garden of Eden, in a land of magic and mystery.
The Play would take the form of Stories told of the lands of Prester John, of giants, dragons, magic and myth, interspersed with scenes of the Bishop and the Pope.
.
2) The Last Book
Cast: Large/Medium Period: Futuristic Form: Comedy/Drama
In the near future, maybe 50 years from now, the world is a land of Hoodies and Texting. The only difference between schools and prisons is that Schools let you go home at the end of the day, and education is sponsored by Wikipedia. No one knows anything anymore. Culture and civilisation are dead. Into this dystopia, a teacher - hiding from a genetically mutated school bully - finds an old storeroom which containt just one item - a book.
He had heard about books, but when he starts to read it he realises that this artefact might just be the key to getting British civilisation back on track...
.
3) Tick-box
Cast: Large/Medium/Small Period: The present Form: Comedy
A newly wed couple, annoyed at how nothing seems to work (council tax, joint bank accounts, etc.) are enticed by the prospect of a brand new country which has just started on an Island in the Atlantic. Known as "Bureaucratia", it promises to be a paradise of efficiency and stability. However, when the couple arrive there, due to a paperwork error, the wife is assigned the wrong job and the husband is classified as an Old Aged Pensioner... then things REALLY start to go wrong...
.
4) Oh no, Zombies!!!
Cast: Medium/Small Period: The present Form: Comedy/Horror
As well all knew would happen, Zombies have taken over the world. We follow a handful of rag-tag survivors as they first try to avoid being killed by Zombies, and then try to avoid being killed by each other!
.
5) FantasticA
Cast: Large Period: The present/Fantasy Form: Comedy Adventure
When a well known Childrens Author ends up in a terrible accident, he ends up in a coma...
and awakes inside the world of his latest novel. The characters, who all represent facets of his personality (greed, humour, self-doubt, honour, pride, anger, etc.) either need his help to save the land, or need him dead to conquer it. Can he save the land, and return to the real world? Probably, but it'll still be exciting watching him, right?
.
So, what do you think? Would you like to run with any of these ideas? Do you have ideas of your own? Post away with your ideas!

  5. I agree, number 2 sounds good. Although I still think you should do some kind of detective play....or a play where loads of random people meet somewhere and you flashback to find out how they got there...(speak to Sophie!) I like the sound of number 5 too...but I think it would be better if you wrote a book about it instead...or if not I will! :P
